Romanian Powhiri at Events Centre
Friday 2nd September, saw five excited children eagerly waiting at the Events Centre along with other schools in Ashburton for the Powhiri for the most important guests we have welcomed to date.
The Tangata Whenua from Hakatere were joining with the Tangata Whenua from Ashburton for the Powhiri.
Our children were Oceanus, Aleisha, Jacob, Joseph TAD, and Hine. To do this they had to learn two new songs, which they did. Congratulations tamariki. You did us proud.
We watched the Capping Ceremony which every player in the World Cup would get.
At the end of this we listened to Op Shops new songs which was all about the Hakatere area.
Wananga Updates
If your child is in Year 3 or above they were given a notice on Friday about a Poi and Haka Wananga, depending on whether they are boy or girl. The Te Tai Huka Trust is kindly paying for buses and tutors, so there is no cost to the children.
The boys Wananga is being held at the Marae on Thursdays 15th and 22nd September, and the girls Wananga is being held at Allenton School on Thursday 22nd September. There is also a girls Poi Wananga being held on the 15th but all of our girls have attended sessions on what is being covered.
If your child is younger than year 3, they will still be expected to turn up for practice in the school hall. Mrs Livingstone and I will take them over material that they need to learn.
